Introduction
These
guides are written as handouts that students can pick up and work through
at their leisure. I hope to build up a useful series covering many of
the common difficulties faced by students who are new to computing. These
are now in PDF format, and require Adobe
Acrobat Reader.
- Getting
an E-Mail Address: How to get a free Hotmail(R) account.
- Working
with Floppy Disks: Saving work to a floppy disk and opening it again.
- Finding
stuff on the Web: An introduction to, err, finding stuff on the
Web.
- Online
Life: Ideas for things you can use the Internet for, other than
games and chat.
- Virus
checking your disks: Using Norton's Anti-Virus Corporate Edition(R)
to check disks for viruses.
Other Materials
I have also created
some other materials, which I am posting here for my own convenience.
- "Using a
Keyboard" is an introductory module, and I've created these notes
to back up existing ones, overcoming specific problems encountered by
some of my students.
- Mock
assessments - realistic practice before doing the assessment.
- Cheat sheets
for common punctuation problems.
